Special Rollers

When standard series aren’t enough, NUOVA OMEC designs and manufactures custom rollers: special geometries, technical coatings, certified materials, and custom configurations tailored to every industrial need.

NUOVA OMEC’s technical department develops custom solutions whenever an application requires performance that standard series cannot provide. This occurs in three main areas: special housing geometries (conical, double, profiled), technical coatings applied to non-driven and motorized series, and special materials and finishes for extreme environments or regulated sectors.

Each special roller is developed in collaboration with the customer, beginning with an analysis of the operating conditions, the type of material being conveyed, and the space and installation constraints. The goal is always to provide a solution that maximizes service life and minimizes operating costs.

Creating curves in roller conveyors requires rollers with conical shells: the diameter, which varies from one end to the other, allows all the rollers in the curve to rotate at the same angular velocity while maintaining a peripheral speed proportional to the radius, thus ensuring the linear movement of the neck without slippage.

NUOVA OMEC offers conical rollers in its main series of idler and motorized rollers, with size charts for inner radii of 800 mm and above and precise cone angles (angle y ≤ 5° between adjacent rollers):

LGE-RS steel tapered idle roller

Galvanised-steel tapered rollers for light- and medium-light-duty applications. Ø12 mm spring-loaded through shaft, version R. Roller shell length from 300 to 670 mm. Internal curve radius: 865–1165 mm.

PVC

LGE-RS tapered roller with PVC body

Tapered PVC outer body mounted on a steel core. It reduces the weight of the conveyor curve and lowers the conveying height. Ideal for light-duty sorting systems with compact curves.

LGS

LGS tapered idle roller with PVC body

Tapered PVC body based on the LGS series. Internal radius from 1257 to 1757 mm. Roller lengths from 312 to 962 mm. Compatible with chain and CNG round-belt transmission systems.

Steel tapered driven rollers with chain-loop transmission. Designed for curved conveyors handling heavy loads, including pallets. Taper angle: 2.7°. Internal radius from 975 to 1675 mm.

CNG

LGS CNG tapered/driven roller

Tapered roller with grooves for CNG round belts, enabling belt transmission through curved conveyor sections. PVC body with a tapered shell. A Poly-V driven version is also available.

LGED steel double roller

Roller with two rotating shells mounted on a fixed shaft. The inner shell rotates more slowly than the outer shell, adapting to the curve radii without requiring tapered rollers. A compact solution for small-radius curves.

NUOVA OMEC applies a wide range of coatings to the roller shells upon request, using two main technologies:

Tire Repair

The coating is applied directly to the belt via a hot vulcanization process, resulting in strong adhesion and uniform thickness. Ideal for heavy loads and high speeds.

  • Natural rubber: for maximum grip and low temperatures
  • SBR / Styrene-Butadiene: economical, general-purpose
  • Vulcanized polyurethane: optimal combination of hardness and resilience
  • PTFE (Teflon®): non-stick , chemical resistance, high-temperature resistance
  • Ceramics / Silicon Carbide: for abrasive belts, quarries, and mines

The choice of material for the shell and shaft is critical to the roller’s performance and service life in relation to its operating environment. NUOVA OMEC offers a wide range of options:
+300°C

High temperatures

Rollers for industrial ovens, dryers and firing tunnels, operating at temperatures up to +300°C. High-temperature bearings with special grease, stainless-steel roller shells or high-temperature silicone coatings.

−40°C

Low temperatures

Rollers for cold-storage rooms and freezing tunnels, operating at temperatures down to −40°C. Bearings with low-temperature grease, special frost-resistant seals and painted or stainless-steel shells for resistance to condensation.

AISI 316L

Aggressive chemical environments

AISI 316L stainless-steel or PTFE-coated rollers for environments exposed to acids, alkalis and solvents. Bearings with FKM seals, including Viton®, provide maximum chemical resistance.

ATEX

ATEX antistatic rollers

Conductive rollers designed for environments with an explosion risk and classified ATEX zones. Roller shells and components feature controlled electrical resistance to dissipate electrostatic charges safely.

Lead times vary depending on the complexity of the required solution. For standard-series linings, lead times are generally short (1–2 weeks). For special geometries, vulcanization processes, or certified materials (316L stainless steel, FDA-approved silicone, PTFE), production lead times are typically 3–6 weeks from technical confirmation. Yes, in many cases it is possible to salvage the existing cover and apply a new slip-on or vulcanized cover. Simply provide the roller or its dimensions (cover diameter, length, shaft type) to verify feasibility. Replacing only the covering significantly reduces costs compared to supplying a complete roller.

The cone angle depends on the inner radius of the curve, the length of the roller, and the number of rollers in the curve. NUOVA OMEC uses standardized design tables that ensure an angle y ≤ 5° between adjacent rollers—a threshold beyond which slippage and abnormal belt wear occur. By providing the inside radius, belt width, and center-to-center distance between the rollers, the engineering department calculates the correct geometry.

Yes. Rollers intended for use in ATEX zones must comply with Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX Equipment) and fall within the equipment category appropriate for the hazard zone (Zone 1/21 or Zone 2/22). NUOVA OMEC supplies rollers with controlled surface resistance of the shell and supporting technical documentation. For applications requiring full ATEX CE marking, the system integrator responsible for the plant must be involved in the overall assessment.
